Jaz Yglesias

In 1995, while a member (drummer) of the Hoku Award winning band Ehukai, Jaz met Nelson Ray Parker (Program Director of KBIG FM at the time) while recording a commercial for an Ehukai concert. Nelson realized Jaz’ quick wit humor and natural gift of gab and immediately offered Jaz a shot on the radio. Well, he’s been on air ever since and has been anchor to many top Morning Show programs such as Kiss Fm’s Morning Zoo, Kapa Fm’s “Da Boloheads”, The Aloha Morning show and KBIG Fm’s Hawaiian Sunset. Jaz also lends his voice to numerous TV Commercials and Extreme Sport Programs. Jaz has been the music / programming director for Kapa for the past 10 years and continues his passion for radio with his partner Ka’ea Lyons in the mornings, since her joing the show in January 2011. Although Jaz grew up in the Bay Area in California as an R & B Musian, he has a love & Passion for Hawaiian Music and has been instrumental in getting up & coming Hawaiian Artist a chance to be heard, You can find Jaz engineering at his studio , The Kaiwiko’o Music Lab in kailua Kona, Jaz is also a lifetime Martial Artist holding a 10th Degree Red Belt Professorship in Hawaiian Kenpo & Kodenkan Jujitsu. He dontates his time to many worthy causes and non profit organzations which support Hawaiian Language & Arts in schools, Including Kako’o i Na Keiki and the Lahui Project which he co-founded with Ka’ea. Jaz also studies Hawaiian language and Hula under his Kumu… Kaea Lyons.

Ka’ea Lyons

Having a passion for Hawaiian language, culture and hula, Ka’ea has enriched the lives of our keiki as a kumu with several Hawaiian Language Programs from Punana Leo- Hawaiian Language Preschools to Ke Kula ‘o ‘Ehunuikaimalino – Hawaiian Language Immersion School for 20 years, until moving to radio fulltime in 2011. She is also a lecturer at the University of Hawai’i Center at West Hawai’i Community College and now teaches Hawaiian Language College courses at HCC and Haleo, while still supporting the kids at Ehunui whenever she can. Ka’ea joined the morning team essay writers online form with Jaz in January of 2011, and is the Content & Brand Manager for KAPA Hwn FM. She continues to spread her Knowledge & Passion for Hawaiian Culture & Language by keeping KAPA active in the community helping to perpetuate the Hawaiian Culture and is Founder of Kako’o I Na keiki Program and the Lahui Project, which benefit Big Island keiki.

Ka’ea has had the blessing of traveling throughout the world and the mainland USA sharing her aloha through hula. Through over 25 years of study, she has graduated to Kumu Hula from the award winning halau, Nä Lei ‘O Kaholokü, under the direction of Kumu Hula Nani Lim Yap and Leialoha Amina.

Ka’ea continues her desire to humbly serve others. While strengthening and nurturing cultural identity by enriching community relationships through education, Hawaiian culture and language.
