Pohai Montague-Mullins

Hailing from the by-gone sugarcane plantations of Pāʻauhau and Hakalau. I am smack-dab in the middle of 7 siblings. All the facets of my unique and colorful life can be contributed to my upbringing on my island of Hawaiʻi, surrounded by family and friends. The Pūnana Leo established the foundation of my enduring devotion to the Hawaiian language, which was further enhanced when I moved into my teaching career at Ke Kula ʻO Nāwahīokalaniʻōpuʻu. When approached to create a Hawaiian language segment on Oceanic Cable’s “Living in Paradise”, I embraced the opportunity to showcase the language in my community. Shortly following that fortuitous offer, another stroke of luck opened the doors of radio to me, which has further enabled me to spread my wings. I began to fly and have never come down. I could have done none of this without all of my family, especially my 5 children, nine grandchildren and my great-granddaughter, who have brought me immeasurable moments of joy. A very wise person once quipped, “do what you love and you will never work a day in your life”. So true!
